14-15 Special education reform guidelines

As the special education reform continues citywide during the 2014-15 school year, students with Individualized Education Programs ("IEPs") will continue to be enrolled at their zoned school or a school of their choice, rather than being assigned to a school based solely on their program recommendation. Because your school will be required to fully meet the service mandates stated on all of your students’ IEPs, it is imperative that you take the necessary steps now to plan for the upcoming school year, so that services are in place and all incoming students receive rigorous instruction and their families feel welcome at your school. It is also crucial that you share and discuss with your staff the plans that you develop, especially with regard to Quality IEPs, Behavior and Transition.
