SESIS Placement Functionality - Prior Written Notice (PWN) *NEW*
The New York State Education Department requires a written statement from the school district that informs the parent about any recommendations relating to the identification, evaluation, educational placement of a student with a disability (or suspected of having a disability) or the provision of a free appropriate public education (FAPE). This replaces the Final Notice of Recommendation (FNR) that was previously issued upon completion of the IEP.

SESIS Provider Assignment - Related Services *NEW*
The Provider Assignment module in SESIS will allow Related Service providers and supervisors to assign students to individual provider caseloads for IEP mandated services and confirm that provision of services has started (“first attend”). As of the 2014-15 school year, school-age SESIS functionality will be complete and users will no longer be required to assign related services in CAP or SEC, or call into IVR to “first attend.”

Additional Guidance
How to resolve Special Education Program discrepancies. - Currently, SESIS only captures referral, assessment and IEP data to pass to CAP. Entries for placement, related services provisioning, and first-attend dates must still be made in the CAP/SEC and IVR systems. This document will assist you in identifying three common issues that cause discrepancies.
Troubleshooting SESIS to CAP Migration Issues - IEP team members can locate and correct the most common issues that prevent IEP information from being recorded in CAP by following the steps on this page. Please check all possible solutions before finalizing an amended IEP--there are often multiple errors in a single document.

SESIS IEPs for English Language Learners
Based on an agreement in July 2013 between the NYC Department of Education and the NY State Education Department, the X code field in CAP and its equivalent field in SESIS (also displayed in ATS) will no longer be used by the DOE. Instead, a new procedure, the English Language Acquisition Needs Determination (ELAND), will be used. ELAND Guidance is available on the Intranet.
